
Fears over new army worm species in Africa

OFM News’ agri editor Sabrina Dean speaks to Professor Schalk Louw of the University of the Free State’s Department of Zoology and Entomology about reports of the appearance of a new type of army worm in Africa. Louw explains that army worms are actually the larvae of a type of moth, with more than 30 different species. Several of these are found on the continent of Africa. He says reports are indicating that a new type, the fall army worm, has now been sighted in several African countries. This specific one has not yet been confirmed in South Africa:
