One of the speakers at the Agbiz Congress in Somerset West this week was Professor Mike Muller, who focused on water security and governance. In this extract from his address he explains the concept of virtual water trade - which basically says food trade should be regulated to reflect water availability. He explains that South Africa is the least water rich country in the SADC region, yet it actually is one of the major exporters of water in the form of food products.
