With another cold front hitting the central interior this week, a manufacturer and supplier of animal health products warns all livestock producers to be aware of the added challenge that cold and wet conditions holds for their animals. Dr Hope Pachena, a animal health specialist at Bupo Animal Health, says a comfortable environment must be provided for live stock in these conditions. Surroundings where possible must be covered, because animals waist feed on producing energy to keep them warm against the cold. If this is not adhered to livestock stress can occur in among others cattle and sheep herds. Pachena says avoiding livestock stress is extremely important in winter months, as it can lead to livestock losses, while an animals' production capacity can also decreas.
