He however managed to become a farmer exporting fruit on his own. Van der Horst runs the farm Loufontein in Villiersdorp since he took over that farm in 2016. During that time golden delicious apples were produced at about 47 tons per hectare. Now a few years onward 90 tons per hectare are produced. This just shows the effort and passion that Van der Horst has put into building up this farm. He also employees about 21 permanent workers and employees seasonal workers as well.
