Farmbiz reports that according to the Agricultural Research Council, there are 2755 recorded bee species in sub-Saharan Africa. Of these, over 1000 are found in South Africa alone. According to the same report, these bees are mainly found in the Fynbos and Karoo areas. Bees play an important role in supporting biodiversity and various ecosystems, both locally and globally. An interesting fact is that worldwide pollinators, including honeybees, annually pollinate crops worth almost $170 billion.
