The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza, has welcomed the arrest of an auctioneer from Polokwane who allegedly on purpose spread the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Limpopo. Didiza says the arrest is vital as the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth is having a devastating effect on the country's economy, but more specific on the red meat industry. Her response comes after an auctioneer, Sors Snyman, was arrested for the alleged contravention of the Animals Diseases Act of 1984 after he knowingly bought cloven-hoofed animals in the Molemole district, moved the animals out of this FMD controlled areas and sold the animals at various auctions at Mogwadi and Vivo.
