All but one voting station out of over 1500 will not be open to the public in the Free State province due to community protest action, today. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced that eligible South Africans may register to vote and update personal information, this weekend. However, a station in Mohlahla, Thaba Nchu will not be open as residents have barricaded roads blockading IEC staff. Protests have affected various stations in the Free State, North West and Northern Cape on Friday and Saturday. Temporary tents were demolished or burned in QwaQwa and Harrismith while another was stolen in Kroonstad. According to Free State IEC’s Itumeleng Liba, protests began after Mangaung Municipality moved illegal dwellers in the area. Nomaqhawe Mtebele/OFM News
