The city of Durban seems likely to pull out of hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula made this announcement at a social cluster briefing in Cape Town on Tuesday. He said no final decision had been taken, but there were several concerns that needed to be addressed, as Maryke Vermaak reports.

The English city of Liverpool has already said they’d be willing to step into the breach should the plug be pulled on a first ever Commonwealth Games on the African continent.
