Molefe: ANC NW warns members to stop spreading malicious untruths

The ANC in North West has warned party members not to spread malicious untruths and propaganda about matters they know nothing about.

The party is expected to hold a media briefing today to clarify confusion surrounding former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe and whether or not he was a member of the ANC in good standing.

The provincial party released a statement at the weekend defending its decision to nominate Molefe, who was implicated in former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's damning State of Capture report.

ANC spokesperson in North West, Gerald Modise, shot down rumours about Molefe's membership, saying he is a member in good standing in Hartebeespoort.

Molefe left Eskom last year under a cloud after the report found that he had constant communication with one of the Gupta brothers while they were negotiating to buy a coal mine that supplies Eskom. When Parliament confirmed that Molefe would be sworn in, questions were raised over which branch he belongs to. The ANC in the province said he was a member of Ward 29 in the Madibeng Municipality. However, several party members said there was no record of Molefe. The provincial party maintains it followed the right process to put Molefe on the list to fill the vacancy in the National Assembly.
