A non-governmental organisation (NGO) says it has proof that kidnapped South African photojournalist Shiraaz Mohamed is alive.
Representatives of NGO, Truth Collective South Africa spent 12 days in Syria where they tried to broker a deal for Mohamed's release.
The NGO's director, Bakar al-Maharmeh says he obtained photos and videos of Mohamed, proving that he is alive.
Al-Maharmeh says he made contact with a mediator between rebel groups and the Syrian government and it was established that Mohamed is being held by Jabhat al-Nusra in Idlib. He says he can't go into too much detail ahead of the final negotiations for Mohamed's release, but says he is alive and plans are under way to get him back home within the next month.
Mohamed entered the country illegally as part of a Gift of the Givers delegation in December and was kidnapped last month as he was preparing to return home.
