FS govt applies for special official funeral for Ouma Tsopo

The Free State provincial government has applied to the Presidency for approval to declare a special official provincial funeral for the late Ouma Tsopo.

The former Free State Legislature speaker passed away on New Year's eve. Tsopo also served in Parliament 13 years ago.

Free State Finance MEC and acting Premier, Elsabe Rockman says Tsopo's Provincial Memorial Service will take place tomorrow at the Phamisanang Primary School in Meloding, Virginia at 12:00. Her Provincial Official Funeral will be held on Saturday at the Harmony High School in Virginia from 08:00.

Free State ANC spokesperson, Thabo Meeko says a delegation of the Free State Executive Council visited Tsopo's family yesterday.

Meanwhile the same delegation, accompanied by the Mayors of the Lejweleputswa District Municipality and the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, visited the family of current Free State Legislature Speaker, Mamiki Qabathe, whose two grandchildren drowned in a swimming pool at her house on New Year’s eve. The funeral for the two boys, aged four and six years old respectively, will take place on Friday at the Meloding Methodist Church at 08:30. Free State police have opened an inquest into the drownings.
