A labour representative says they are cautiously optimistic following the announcement of the proposed national minimum wage yesterday.
Neil Coleman's comment comes after the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) advisory panel proposed a figure of R3 500 a month and R20 an hour as a starting point for discussions countrywide. Various stakeholders, including government, business and unions, will now discuss the report and the panel hopes the country will have an agreed upon national minimum wage by January.
