FS Health asks for extension of deadline

The Free State Health Department has asked the Public Service Commission (PSC) for an extension of a deadline imposed in its report which called for an urgent intervention at health facilities in the province.

The PSC gave the department strict deadlines to intervene at Dr J S Moroka District Hospital and Mangaung University Community Partnership Programme (MUCPP) where problems such as a shortage of medical personnel and an urgent need for maintenance were found. The MUCPP is the second training facility for medical students – after Universitas Academic Hospital - that have been found to have problems, raising serious concerns about the accreditation for medical training facilities in the province.

Provincial PSC Commissioner, Henk Boshoff says he granted the department an extension on the deadline for MUCPP, but would not move on the Moroka Hospital.
