Former prisoners are at high risk of poverty because of the challenges they face in being reconnected to society. These challenges are often the result of the stigma of incarceration, as well as the disadvantages that often characterise this population, including low levels of education, mental health problems, and substance abuse. Few prisoners leave prison with jobs or other necessary resources already secured. OFM Journalist Mark Steenbok went go find out more about these challenges.
