The world's biggest air race, the President's Trophy Air Race, gets underway at the Bethlehem Aero Club today.
Chairman of the Bethlehem Aero Club, Philip Jacobs says the two day event is open to all class C1 aircraft. He says the race is run annually at the end of May.
Jacobs says about 1 000 people flock to the air race every year, joined by about 100 crews.
Handicaps are developed to attempt to give each aircraft a chance of winning. The handicap system also allows different types of aircraft to compete against each other.
During the two days, competitors will fly a course of approximately 320 nautical miles.
Entrants must have a minimum cruise speed of 100 knots and be able to cover the distance with proper legal reserves remaining.
