The Nampo farm outside Bothaville is a hive of activity as exhibitors put the finishing touches on their stands ahead of the Harvest Day celebrations from 17 to 20 May.
Thousands of visitors are expected to visit the four day event. Nampo Committee Chairperson Cobus van Coller says they are ready for any eventuality:
“For an international show like this we need to be accredited and there are certain requirements we must adhere to. So naturally we have a disaster management team on site 24/7.
“In other words visitors can feel completely at ease – the team includes everything from police to ambulance services to hospital groups with stands on the grounds. Then there is also the 24 hour security across the grounds and on the outskirts to help visitors feel safe and ensure the cars are protected.”
Nampo is notorious for the huge traffic volumes experienced over the week-long celebration. Van Coller says they are working closely with traffic officials and has urged visitors to be patient:
“We went as far as to speak to the provincial roads department, which has helped us fill some of the potholes and fill in areas where needed. So be patient, stay on the main routes, don’t try alternate routes. You will arrive and get into the grounds, we have enough parking, we are working with traffic authorities, just relax, we’ll get you onto the grounds as quickly as possible.”
