Pacofs personnel and government officials working in the adjacent Fidel Castro building in Bloemfontein had to evacuate this morning due to a fire in the basement of the Pacofs building. The fire was noticed in the battery room for back-up lighting by Pacofs security at about 07:00. They were busy with routine security checks. Public Works spokesperson, Mlungisi Maqubela, told OFM News the fire is under control, but there is still concern regarding the toxins released by the smoke.

Braam van Zyl, from the Mangaung Fire Brigade says rescue services are still on the scene to extinguish the fire. He says no one is allowed back into either building for the rest of the day. Streets around the buildings are still closed for traffic.
