The police in Bloemfontein are investigating the cause of a fire that ravaged a five storey building in the city's central business district yesterday.
Spokesperson, Chaka Marope, says claims by Savvas Kyriacou, the owner of the warehouse in St George's Street, that the fire could have been set deliberately, will form part of the investigation.
The building, in which cosmetics, groceries and soft drinks were stored, took flame in the early hours of Sunday morning. Marope said the fire started at about 01:30 and burnt for most of the day. He said nobody was injured in the fire.
Braam van Zyl, of the Mangaung Fire and Rescue Service, says firefighters continued with damping down operations until late into the afternoon.
ER24 paramedics said a number of explosions were heard coming from the building.
