An analyst says the freedom that was fought for South Africa's liberation struggle is being threatened by bad governance and a president who is not upholding the values of the constitution.
Amanda Gouws's comment came as South Africans commemorated the first democratic elections held in the country 22 years ago. This year's celebrations coincided with the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. At the same time various groups picketed and marched against the government, with many still calling for President Jacob Zuma to step down. Gouws says freedom day means more now than it has ever before. She says the various protest marches held yesterday will have an impact but believes government will not listen.
