The North West Education Department has found learning and teaching material for the 2015 academic year in a warehouse in Mahikeng after the distributor failed to notify the department of the missing surplus material.

Department spokesperson Elias Malindi says the distributor failed to deliver the material due to unpaid debt with suppliers. The supplier refused to release the material until the debt was settled.

The matter was handed over to the distributor’s legal team which then managed to retrieve the material which was then delivered to the Ngaka Modiri Molema district office.

Meanwhile Mugwena Maluleke, general secretary of teachers' union, Sadtu, says the blunder was a result of poor management by the head of the North West education department. He says serious action should be taken against the HOD, as this incident violates the right to education of North West learners, as well as the Constitution.
