The widow of Andries Tatane, who made international headlines after he was killed by police during a service delivery protest in Ficksburg, says municipal services are still not up to scratch five years after her husband's death.
Rose Tatane was speaking after a national bursary fund was launched in commemoration of Tatane's death at the Meqheleng township.
In an interesting turn of events, the Sesotho Local Municipality, which includes Ficksburg, was ranked the most financially stable municipality in the Free State by Ratings Afrika. The agency publishes an annual Municipal Financial Stability Index (MFSI) which looks at the financial sustainability of municipalities. Each municipality is given a mark out of 100 index points.
But, Rose says there is still room for improvement.
