FEATURE: Joy Kroon - horsing around is serious business

Joy Kroon is a Bloemfontein woman with a passion for horses who has founded an organisation called Horses in Need South Africa to try and ease the suffering of horses in rural areas. The drought has meant that many of these animals are slowly but surely starving to death, while at the same time many of their owners do not have the knowledge or means to provide them with proper care. She has come across severely malnourished animals, as well as horses being worked with serious injuries and homemade tack that causes severe pain, injury or discomfort. Her mission is to help the horses, educate the owners and raise awareness of the situation.
