Opposition parties have called for an investigation into the Gupta family's links with government following revelations that the family allegedly influenced government appointments.
This comes after Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas yesterday confirmed that the Gupta family offered him the job of finance minister before Nhlanhla Nene was removed in December last year. Reports surfaced at the weekend that Jonas was called to a meeting with the Guptas and was offered the job two weeks before Nene was removed.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane called for the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the "Guptas's capture of state resources". He said the country is not being governed by the ANC or president Jacob Zuma, but rather the Guptas.
Maimane and DA shadow minister of finance David Maynier will today lay charges against the Guptas at the Cape Town police station.
The EFF echoed Maimane's statements with spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi saying the Guptas have effectively undermined and rendered the votes of the people of South Africa and the democratic system useless.
