Workers from De Beers Kimberley Mines say they are concerned about possible retrenchment.
National Union of Mineworkers spokesperson, Orapeleng Moraladi, says about 250 employers of the mine embarked on a march against De Beers Consolidated Mining in Kimberley today. The union is unhappy about the manner in which Kimberley Mines were sold to Ekapa Mining and Petra Diamonds.
Moraladi also claims that there are outstanding payments to employees.
The union says they expect a reply to their grievances within two days. De Beers spokesperson, Tom Tweedy, earlier assured workers there would be no retrenchments adding that the Kimberley mines will be sold to Ekapa Minerals under provisions of Section 197 of the Labour Relations Act.
