Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Butana Komphela has warned South Africans who are returning home from holidays this weekend to respect and obey the rules of the road.

With schools set to reopen on Wednesday and many people returning to work next week, roads across the country are expected to be extremely busy this weekend.

Transport department spokesperson, Hillary Mophethe says traffic volumes already started picking up on Friday and they are expected to increase into next week.

She says a number of traffic officers are visible on all major roads, monitoring traffic.
