Ongoing gangsterism and violence at schools in Heidedal in Bloemfontein and Botshabelo affected the performance of matriculants last year. Free State premier, Ace Magashule, says despite isolated incidents the province did well with a 81.6% pass rate. A record number of students sat for the exam and more than 9 200 obtained bachelor passes. Magashule says he is proud of the class of 2015.
