Following talks with the Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) local municipality in the Free State on Monday regarding its debt, Eskom is optimistic that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Speaking to OFM News on the matter, Eskom spokesperson in the province - Stefannie Jansen Van Rensburg – says the power supplier is awaiting the municipality’s feedback on a possible resolution.
She however mentioned that they “have no other agreements in place at the moment.”
Furthermore, she elaborated that they "were successfully interdicted by the Harrismith Business Forum" and adding that they “cannot switch off power for no payment. However, MAP has not invested in its networks or upgraded its supply -so we do implement NMD limitations to prevent the entire network from failing.”
