New system to tighten the security on South African IDs

The Department of Home Affairs’ Draft Official Identity Management Policy wants to introduce a new system which aims to tighten security on identity documents and be more inclusive of various gender identity minorities.

The new system proposes that every birth in the country, irrespective of the status of the parents, must be registered.
