Kesivan Naidoo on The Jazz Standard with Brenda Sisane
Loading player...
Kesivan Naidoo is a drummer, composer, arranger and bandleader. He leads Kesivan and the Lights, has built big-band projects around both jazz and amapiano, and he has worked with artists including Miriam Makeba, Bheki Mseleku, Zim Ngqawana, Abdullah Ibrahim and Maria Schneider.
He also made history when he received the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Jazz in 2009 — the only drummer to have received the award. Seventeen years later, he is still making music that asks interesting questions about rhythm, movement, heritage and where South African jazz can go next.
His latest album with Kesivan and the Lights is called We Dance at Home, and we're here to talk about this offering and more.
