Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) is accelerating its digital transformation plans, with the state-owned airport operator targeting what it calls “Airport 4.0” through the integration of artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, Internet of Things technology, blockchain and robotics across its airport network.

The strategy forms part of a R21.7 billion capital investment pipeline over five years, which is aimed at modernising infrastructure while improving airport operations and the passenger experience. ACSA says its ambition is to develop a smarter, more connected airport ecosystem by 2031, with technology increasingly integrated into both airside and landside operations.

The technology drive comes after ACSA reported a record financial performance for the year ended 31 March 2025. The company recorded a net profit of R1.1 billion, more than double the R472 million reported in 2023/24, while revenue increased by 13% to R7.9 billion. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation rose to R2.9 billion
