The Joburg Contemporary Art Foundation’s Reverse Futures brings together artists, researchers and architects to challenge conventional ideas about what the future looks like and who gets to define it. As the final exhibition in JCAF’s three-year Worldmaking trilogy, the exhibition shifts the focus away from dominant Western narratives of technology and progress, instead drawing on historical research, Indigenous knowledge systems, community stories and artists’ lived experiences from the Global South. Through themes of space, time and place, the exhibition explores how colonialism, migration, environmental change and technological development continue to shape the world we inhabit.
