IN CONVERSATION WITH TIEGO KHOZA- POLITICAL ANYLIST

This morning, the spotlight once again falls on Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, as he returns to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria. Matlala, a controversial figure long linked to alleged criminal cartels and questionable state contracts, is expected to clarify omissions in his earlier affidavit. Among the names missing from his previous testimony are senior police officials, including suspended Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, former KZN Hawks head Leseja Senona, and former Organised Crime head Richard Shibiri. His reappearance signals a critical moment in the commission’s effort to untangle the web of corruption within law enforcement structures.
Matlala’s testimony has drawn intense public interest because of his alleged ties to the criminal underworld. At his last appearance, he repeatedly invoked his constitutional right to remain silent when pressed about the R228-million Medicare24 tender, a contract riddled with allegations of fraud and irregularities. His refusal to answer questions raised suspicions about the depth of his involvement and the extent to which powerful networks may be shielding him. Today, the commission hopes to break through that silence and extract details that could expose systemic weaknesses in procurement and policing.
