Daily Digest | Consumer Ombud tallies record number of complaints in past financial year

The Consumer Goods and Services Ombud has recorded a record number of complaints in the past financial year but said too many consumers are still being left without redress. The CGSO received more than 15,000 complaints in the 2025/26 financial year, a 26% increase from the previous year. It closed more than 13,000 cases and recovered R12.9 million for consumers through refunds and replacements. Mpho Molefe and Jones Netshipise talk to Queen Munyai, the CEO at the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud about what is driving this surge, and what it tells us about consumer experiences in South Africa.
