Implementation of AARTO Phase 2

Motorists in KwaZulu-Natal are being urged to familiarise themselves with the new Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences, better known as AARTO, as Phase 2 of its national rollout is now underway across 62 municipalities. The new system changes how most traffic infringements are handled, moving them from the criminal justice system to an administrative process managed by the Road Traffic Infringement Agency.

While many people associate AARTO with demerit points, the RTIA says the current phase is focused on streamlining the issuing and payment of traffic fines, with demerit points only expected in a later phase.
