The Mpumalanga MEC for CoGHSTA, Speedy Mashilo, says he will discuss the issue of scholar transport with the MEC for Public Works, Roads, and Transport after a scholar transport did not make it to school at Lehlaka Combined School on the first day of the 2026 academic year.

This comes after one of the buses of the scholar transport failed to bring learners to the school.

MEC Mashilo visited the combined school in Riestruit, eMalahleni, on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, as part of the 2026 academic year school support program.

He says the scholar transport should be reliable and consistent to bring learners to the school on time.

He says they will also look at the matter of the school owing the municipality about 6.5 million.

He says it was a blessing for the government to visit the school to witness the shortcomings of the scholar transport.
