The South African Communist Party (SACP) has publicly stated that it wants to enter government to help the African National Congress (ANC) accelerate land reform and economic redistribution in South Africa. In 2024, the SACP announced plans to contest elections independently, breaking with its long-standing practice of participating under the ANC banner as part of the Tripartite Alliance with the ANC and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).
