The ANC has done an about-turn, granting Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s request to step aside from his roles in the party’s national executive and working committees after initially rejecting his offer. Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had reconsidered and agreed to Mchunu’s request for “special leave” from ANC activities. Mchunu has already appeared before the party’s integrity commission, and the ANC says it waited for that process to conclude before finalising its decision. Phemelo speaks to ANC Acting National Spokesperson Nonceba Mhlauli about the developments.
