The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA), a regional network of
civil society organizations, is committed to advocating for evidence-based
alcohol policies that protect public health, promote social justice, and reduce
alcohol-related harm across Southern Africa. Through research, advocacy,
and collaboration, SAAPA supports communities in creating safer
environments and addressing the societal impacts of alcohol misuse.
In line with this mission, SAAPA is inviting media practitioners to participate
in the Regional Media Workers Series: Monday Conversations with Ancillar
Nombewu, focusing on Amplifying Advocacy for Alcohol Harm Reduction.
This interactive virtual series aims to strengthen the capacity of journalists
and media workers to report ethically and effectively on alcohol-related
harm, public health, and policy issues. Each session will provide insights,
dialogue, and practical tools to support impactful, evidence-based media
reporting.
Conversation Series Details:
 Format: Virtual (Microsoft Teams)
 Dates: 17 November 2025, 24 November 2025, 1 December 2025
 Duration: 2 hours per session (3 pm – 5 pm)
 Frequency: Weekly (Monday Conversations)
 Language: English (interpretation available where needed)

 Understanding alcohol harm and drinking patterns
 Alcohol availability and gender-based violence
 Road safety and alcohol use
 Strengthening community voices in alcohol regulation
 Building media and advocacy partnerships
 Strategic storytelling and regional collaboration

opportunities to network with experts and fellow media practitioners across
the Southern African region.
