Ramokgopa Unveils R2.2 Trillion Power Plan to Supercharge SA's Economy

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has announced a game-changing R2.23 trillion energy plan to supercharge South Africa’s economy - and keep the lights on for good. The new plan aims to add 105 000MW of power generation capacity by 2039, more than double Eskom’s current output. It’s part of the newly approved Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), set to be gazetted on 24 October. Ramokgopa says the mega-build will spark construction, drive industrialisation, and keep the economy growing at a minimum of 3% from 2030, all while staying on track for net-zero emissions by 2050.
