Malema Faces Prison Over Gun Charges – Vows to Fight On

EFF leader Julius Malema is facing a possible 15-year prison sentence after being convicted on multiple firearm-related charges, but he’s not going down without a fight. Malema says he’ll appeal the East London Magistrate’s Court ruling, which found him guilty on five counts, including unlawful possession of a firearm and recklessly firing an assault rifle in public during the EFF’s 5th birthday bash in 2018. He insists it was a "toy gun" loaded with blanks – but the court didn’t buy it. His co-accused, former bodyguard Adriaan Snyman, walked away free. Malema’s sentencing is set for 23 January 2026. Kaya News reporter Keneiloe Huma wraps up the judgment with Phemelo.
