An 18-year-old learner from a high school in eMalahleni appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court after video footage showed him pushing two teachers down steps on September 9. The teen and his mother had initially tried to open a case against the teachers, but police arrested him after reviewing the footage.
He was released on a warning, and the case was postponed to November 12. The school headmaster confirmed a disciplinary hearing is also underway, while the Department of Education has requested a full report.
At what age do you think a teenager should be held fully accountable for their actions? Think back to when you were 18 – were you really making well-thought-out decisions, or do you believe accountability should come later?”
