Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina has admitted that millions in public funds have been wasted on unfinished water projects while millions of South Africans continue to go without clean running water. She laid part of the blame on a so-called “water tanker mafia” and on widespread municipal mismanagement. One example: a R13-million water treatment plant now needs R24-million to complete after years of delays. With water cuts gripping cities and rural areas alike, Deputy Minister David Mahlabo joins Phemelo to explain how government plans to fix the crisis.
