Blue Label Telecoms has posted a strong set of results, driven largely by its investment in Cell C. The telecoms operator, once written down to nil, has now delivered a “net positive” earnings contribution to the group – powering headline earnings per share up more than 500% in the year to May.
With its recent rebrand to Blue Unlimited (BLU) and a push to secure a controlling stake of 53.5% in Cell C, Blue Label is looking to restructure and ultimately list the mobile operator, giving it the independence to stand on its own merits. The Competition Commission has already signaled its support, calling the deal “another chance at life” for Cell C after years of financial strain.
