Today we are joined by Cameron Kasambala, Community Manager at Women for Change, a South African non-profit dedicated to combating GBV and femicide. The organisation amplifies survivor stories, raises public awareness, and recently put pressure on policymakers during the National Convention in Pretoria. In her personal capacity, Cameron is completing her honours in Psychology at the South African College of Applied Psychology, bringing expertise in mental health and child psychology to her advocacy work.
The rate of femicide in South Africa is six times higher than the global average, with at least 15 women being murdered every day, this is a devastating reality that continues to grip the nation. Just this past week, 28-year-old Kgaogelo Marota was brutally killed outside a tavern, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend. After the incident, her killer went home and stabbed his current girlfriend and she is currently in hospital recovering. Kgaogelo’s death has left her family demanding justice, and once again highlights the urgent need for stronger action against gender-based violence and femicide.
