Today I am joined by Dr. Nevashnee Perumal is a Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of the Department of Social Development Professions at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Gqeberha, South Africa. With a PhD in Social Work from the University of Fort Hare, she specializes in social work education, focusing on decolonization, indigenization, and the integration of African knowledge systems into the curriculum.
Dr. Perumal's work is deeply rooted in her heritage as a fourth-generation South African of South Indian origin. Her passions include social justice, education, and community empowerment continues to inspire and shape the future of social work in South Africa and beyond. Today I have the pleasure of speaking to her about her work, her beginings in social work and her contributions as one of the co authors on a NRF funded project looking at course redesign using a concept called Authentic E Learning.
