The 2025 Alternative Mining Indaba is underway in Cape Town, from the 3rd - 6th of February 2025. For over a decade, the AMI has provided an opportunity for communities affected by mining to mobilise around demands for social justice in the extractives sector.

The Mpumalanga province is home to valuable resources including coal, gold, iron ore and chrome. The province’s mining market accounts for 83% of all coal production in South Africa.
