Obama climate change adviser on giving ESG rules 'teeth'

'We're in a great place right now,' declares an ebullient John Morton.

A former climate change adviser to president Barack Obama, Morton could not be more pleased to see Joe Biden prepare for the White House. Morton worked with Obama on his Paris Agreement legacy during his final months in the Oval Office, and is now very pleased indeed to see the former vice president come president-elect put climate action back on the table.

Why does this matter to advisers? Well, institutional investors and pension funds are about to swept along in an irrepressible tide of climate change disclosure regulation and corporate governance re-assessment, Morton says.

It might sound like more red tape. Not at all, Morton says. It is the greatest business opportunity of our lifetimes.
