Hot Cares helps 12 year old epilepsy sufferer

When Abiegail (Abie) was 5 years she had her first seizure and diagnosed with epilepsy. At the beginning she had petit mal seizures. Unfortunately, the seizures became more serious and progressed into grand mal seizures. Abie now experiences these debilitating seizures 3 times a day.

In early 2020 Abie was formally diagnosed with Intractable Epilepsy with a left periventricular nodular heterotopia (PVNH). What this means is that the epilepsy is drug resistant, no medication works. Further complicating thing is that the heterotopia is on the left lobe making it inoperable.

Fast forward and Abie (now 12) is a candidate for a new, very specialized surgical procedure where they will remove the deformed cells from the left side of her brain. This is ground-breaking surgery and Abie will be the third person in the world to have this surgery.

The family are appealing for help with the costs. Abie only has a basic medical aid, and it will not cover most of the expenses.

This is how Hot Cares has gotten involved.
